We're here. It's been exactly one month and six days since I've started talking about the Doyle Elementary School playground revamp, and it's finally complete and open to the public!I went there today expecting to update you guys, but lo and behold, there were kids on the playground! And after playing on it for a decent amount of time, here are my thoughts. I think it was, for the most part, a good upgrade! The biggest selling point is definitely the "big spirally upside-down semisphere", which I'll nickname the "tall merry-go-round" for convinience. As you've probably figured out, I was correct in assuming it spins! It's fun, but not without it's flaws. Again, the metal holding up the top spirals, which makes it a bit harder to spin. And the surface also gets very hot, which will no doubt make it a bit of a pain to spin during the early and late days of the school year. Also, remember the chair in the middle of the playground? It spins! It doesn't have any other equipment attached to it, but it spins! One downside I'd like to talk about is the scale of the playground. In the past, it was wide enough for roughly 2 1/2 kids. Now, it's only wide enough for one! Congestion was already somewhat of a problem on the original playground, but it was so rare, I didn't even want it or expect it to be wider. But I certainly didn't want it to be thinner! This is a tad unrelated, but they also touched up the benches, and honestly, they're pretty servicable! They're all relocated to spots in the shade, which as someone who used to use them for 9 months straight, everyone is going to appreciate that. Also, they still haven't put a new soccer net in. I believe that's it for every suspicion, so now it's time for the verdict. Is the new playground better than the original? As much as it pains me to say, I don't think so. In addition to what I've said earlier, the structures are less fun to run around on, there's only one row of swings in contrast to the original two, there's less space to hang out underneath, and be honest with me. Who's even going to use the sensory equipment?? As many good features as there are, I just don't think this is a better playground than the original. Anyways, thanks for coming on this jorney with me, even if it was a stupid one. Keep having fun, being kind, and staying silly.
Hello, geeks! I come bearing new playground news! To start, there's a big spiral... thing? It's a decently big upside-down semisphere bolted into the ground with 8 poles spiraling around it's perimiter, all holding up a cone on top. Based on what I could see, it seems like it's able to spin, but I won't know until the playground is open. There are also a few new structures! There's a sort of seesaw thing, which if you've ever been to Burpee Park, you've probably seen. It's two chairs connected together with steel in the middle, that most likely will be able to spring back and forth, like a springy seesaw. There's also... a chair. There's just a chair sitting near the playground. It's probably for another piece of equipment, but it'd be really damn funny if there was just a chair in the middle of a playground forever. Moving away from equipment, there's now a finiallized flooring. A small section of the front is cork, with section of it converging under the playground and to the other side. The rest is just mulch. Furthermore, there's also a fence around the perimiter, which I am PRAYING is temporary. Because like, why the hell would you give kids less access to the playground that they use, and is also OPEN DURING WEEKENDS?? I don't know man. That's all I have to say, thanks for reading. Be kind to others and yourself, and stay silly.
If there's one thing you should know about me, it's that I'm a physical media junkie. Having something available physically means it's always your's, no questions asked, and as Sony is showing us, that's extremely valuable. And yet again, my point is being proven. I recently found a CD of the album Revisited Classics by BossaCucaNova at a Goodwill. It's an absolute banger, and I've been listening the crap out of it. I was even listening to it on Spotify when I didn't have a CD player on me. That's the important part. On the seventeenth of July(I know I'm late, shut up), seven tracks were delisted from the album, and three weren't available to begin with. This angers me to an unreasonable degree. Not solely because great songs are now unavailable, but because it's a bleak reminder of the fact that people own so little and are complacent. I've not yet reached out to Spotify about this, however I will and update you when I get an answer. But for now we'll just have to wait. Also, I've archived it! You can find the archive here. I apologize for the odd way the tracks are laid out and named. I've tried to fix it, and I have no idea how. Thanks for listening to me bitch about my music, stay kind, safe, and silly
Let me just start by saying I'm sorry it's taken so long to update. I've been procrastinating a lot on this, and I really hate myself for it. But with that slop out of the way, playground update time! And as you'd probably expect from an 11 day gap, it's pretty big! Starting with the biggest, there's now a BIG climing net! It's a tall round pole extending up from the ground and holding a black net, with holes big enough to fit your feet into. It spreads from the top and tapers to four concrete blocks holding the corners in place, but there's also a section that raises up to the playset! It's taking up most of the left side, so that answers the question of what's gonna go in there. There's more! There's a standard bench in front of it, and the right side swings appear complete. There's also small climbing walls to the left of the net. Also to the left of the net is...
look, I'm gonna be honest, I don't know how to describe this one, so heres a photo of the closest thing.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading, and I'll see you in the next one!
This ones a biggun! We have a lot more progress on the playground! Right now, it looks like an actual playground! The playset looks done. There's a "staircase", a spiral and pedestal line up to the high ground. There are two slides, one covered and a bit squiggily, and one uncovered and straight. There's a mildly flat sideways surface with holes for your feet up to the top too. But what I think is the coolest part is the roof in the middle. It doesn't take up much space, but there's a plaque on it that says "Doyle Elementary", which I just think is neat. But that's literally it. It's very far alligned to the right, and there's not any open areas on the equipment to extend it, so here's what's possible. Either A: They fill it with different equipment, I.E. swings and the old slide (likely, but boooooriiiing), or B: They make dual playsets! (unlikely, but fun!!!:D) I don't know. I'm just spitballing. I'm very excited to see the finished product!
Didn't think I'd be posting again so soon, but here we are. And once again, it's about the playgrounnd. I only drove by it, so it's likely not going to be 100% accurate to all the changes that happened. What I observed is some new structures! Er, at least the start of them. There's steel beams near the right of the playground, resembling the corners of a square. It appeared very similar to how it was laid out originally, which makes me question the severity of this change, even slightly. That's essentially all I remember of it. I'll update you, possibly and hopefully tomorrow!
Happy July, everyone! I'm gonna let you in on a personal happening of mine. My old school, Doyle, is having their playground changed. And from now on, I'm gonna be documenting what happens now that I have a space to.
The actual playground is completely gone. All of the equipment was destroyed. There's a large pile of mulch in the top left corner. I think it goes without saying it's dug up from earlier. The bottom is filled with what appears to be pebbles, and a few construction vehicles were on top. The blacktop perimiter has a few mysterious objects covered in white tarps, which I am speculating to be a few items for the new playground. One of the large soccer nets was taken down, which considering that the other ones weren't, and it was in fine condition when I saw it last, I have no goddamn idea why they did this. That's essentially all I have to say for now. I will update you on how things go in the future!
Everything not archived will be lost forever, so this is your sign to back up the media you care about! I am so serious. Is there a website you really like? An audio file you never want to forget about? A crappy movie you made for a school project? ARCHIVE IT!! It's so simple! Just go to Archive.org, make an account, upload the file, add a bit of metadata, and you're just done! And for websites, once your logged in, you just have to enter the URL in the "Web" tab, and wait two minutes! In fact, I just uploaded this site, and it took less than that! How do so little people DO THIS??!! It's easy, not at all time consuming, and it helps you remember what you love for the rest of time. So please, archive everything.
This is my first blog post, and the first day hosting this site! Things are going... alright. I'm obviously not very experienced in HTML, but the Neocities tutorial was surprisingly informative and actually fun to follow. I've tried a few tutorials with crappy iOS HTML sandboxes, and many of them were informative, yes, but SO. UNBELEVABLY. BORING! I'm definitely gonna have fun figuring out HTML and building this website with all the new things I learn. Well, let's hope. ;)
